iPhone 8 could replace home button with Fingerprint-Scanning Screen

Currently, Apple is planning to ditch the home button altogether and adopting a new function area at the bottom of the phone.

It is believed that new function area occupies in the same space where the current Touch ID home button. Moreover, the area will incorporate new biometric technologies to replace Touch ID, a feature Apple introduced back in 2013.

Furthermore, Apple teased that the company is planning to build a fingerprint sensor right into the display. It will obsolete the Touch Id home button in neat future.

Apple said that “When the fingerprint is placed upon the transparent substrate, the sensing IR diodes within the display panel sense patterned IR light reflected off grooves of the fingerprint surface. This patterned IR light is relayed to the output processor as a bitmap where it is processed to determine the fingerprint surface’s unique pattern. Because the display panel can sense IR light, the display panel is able to perform surface profile determination when the display panel is not emitting visible light.”

iPhone 8 is expected to have a 5.8-inch OLED screen but with only a usable surface area of 5.15- inches since the rest of the screen will be used for the function area.

Talking about the new feature, Apple analyst Ming- Chi Kuo said that

“The phone will come with other biometric technologies that replace the current fingerprint recognition technology.”

He further added that Next version of the iPhone will probably have same features as it have in 4.7 inch iPhone 7. It will sport a larger screen and have similar battery life to the iPhone 7 plus.
