A report was released in May 2016 stating that Apple plotting to stop music downloads on the iTunes Store in upcoming days. Following to this, the company was unexpectedly very fast to refuse the allegations and set the record straight.

Digital Music News, a site aimed at professionals of the music industry stated that issue was not if Apple was going to kill downloads but when will the company do away with the downloads in due to the recently-launched Apple music streaming service.

Lately, music downloads recently have decreased with many users opting to use streaming services as an alternative.

Furthermore, iTunes still leads as the most prevalent music platform among users in the U.S. The information is based on a new survey conducted by PayPal on digital media consumption.
